Meanwhile, I try to mimic the other dads with their jockish gyrations and inane sports talk. I try to study up on the sports page headlines. It is not easy. I barely know the rules of the game and care even less about the game’s statistics.
I am also grateful that my son likes playing catch with a baseball. I can reasonably throw and catch a baseball. With football, on the other hand, I am totally clumsy and inept at throwing and catching it.

You've touched upon my biggest fear with our 6 year. I'm half-way decent at a few sports, but overall, I never really learned enough to do any of them well.
Worse for me is the discussions of professional or college team sports. I do't care nor can even pretend to participate.
But for now, and like you, he sees me for who I am; his dad. I love every minute of practiing tee ball and dribbling basketballs. And I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Awww, that's sweet. Anyway, it's not how well you throw or catch the baseball, it's the time you spend doing it with him. I'm sure that's what he loves most of all. And I'm sure you know that!
Here.
At Family Week we had a group of lesbian on the beach teaching our son how to throw and catch a football.
We haven't got a clue.
